New Edo Police Commissioner Patrick Daor assumes duty, promises citizens respect and open-door policies

BENIN CITY, EDO STATE — CP Patrick Daor officially assumed office as the new Commissioner of Police for Edo State following a formal handover ceremony at the Police Command Headquarters in Benin City.
Daor takes over leadership from Monday Agbonika, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). The transition follows a nationwide deployment of state command leadership approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC) and Inspector General of Police.
Key Commitments & Operational Priorities
During his inaugural address, CP Daor outlined his vision for security operations and civil engagement across Edo State:
- Respect for Human Rights: Promised that personnel under his command will treat every resident with utmost respect and professionalism.
- Open-Door Policy: Reaffirmed that public trust and community cooperation are central to his leadership, encouraging residents to share actionable information directly.
- High Operational Mobility: Pledged to lead a highly mobile and responsive police command equipped to address emerging security challenges proactively.
- Continuity of Strategy: Vowed to fine-tune existing crime-fighting strategies and build upon the security gains achieved by the previous administration.
The outgoing CP, now AIG Monday Agbonika, expressed gratitude to the Edo State government, religious leaders, and command personnel for their support during his tenure, noting that crime rates were significantly reduced under his watch.
