AAU Ekpoma ASUU Mobilizes for Indefinite Strike Over Unimplemented 2025 Agreement
EKPOMA — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Chapter, has initiated full mobilization of its members for a total and indefinite strike. The move follows the persistent failure of university authorities and the Edo State Government to implement the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement.
At a decisive congress held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the university’s main campus, the union declared that its patience had expired after waiting six months for concrete implementation steps. ASUU expressed profound disappointment, stating that all efforts to engage authorities had been met with “trivialization and disregard.”
The Union’s Demands
In a formal resolution, the union outlined strict conditions to avert the looming industrial action:
- Salary Adjustments: Effective from the July 2026 salary cycle, payments must reflect the CATA component and all other allowances stipulated in the agreement.
- Arrears Cleared: All backlog and accrued arrears dating back to January 2026 must be paid in full.

A Growing Disparity
While acknowledging the positive disposition of the Senator Monday Okpebholo-led Edo State Government toward the institution, union leadership described the ongoing delay as “provocative.”
ASUU-AAU highlighted that all federal universities and at least ten state-owned universities have already fully implemented the 2025 agreement, including the payout of arrears, leaving AAU lecturers left behind.
The union maintained that while it prefers industrial peace, the swift and full implementation of the agreement remains the only path to avoiding a total shutdown of the university.
